Problem Statement

As the platform expanded, its static cloud infrastructure could not keep pace. Provisioning was manual, scaling to changing workloads was difficult and cost-inefficient, backend services needed stronger network isolation to reduce public exposure, and communication across a growing ecosystem of microservices and background processing components was becoming increasingly complex. Challenge

1. Manual, Static Infrastructure Provisioning
Infrastructure changes were provisioned by hand, making every environment update slow, error-prone, and difficult to reproduce. Supporting enterprise growth demanded consistent, repeatable, version-controlled infrastructure across environments.

2. Scaling Compute Without Runaway Cost
Guest engagement workloads fluctuate through the day, but static capacity meant the platform was either over-provisioned and wasting spend or under-provisioned during peaks. Compute had to scale automatically with real application demand.

3. Reducing the Public Attack Surface
Backend services required far stronger network isolation. Every service reachable from the public internet represented risk, so the target architecture had to guarantee that internal applications remained fully private without breaking external access for legitimate clients.

As the number of microservices and background processing components grew, service-to-service discovery, caching, and asynchronous task handling became harder to manage reliably at scale.
